The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Workers Compensation Specialist/Claims Examiner to work at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This HR division manages all workers' compensation claims DOT-wide and provides comprehensive/expert guidance and direction to both internal and external customers.

The selected Workers Compensation Specialist will ensure that program management is in accordance with government regulations and procedures and in a manner consistent with all DOL, DOT, FAA, and AHR performance targets and metrics.

Additionally, he/she will ensure established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments, but allow considerable discretion for employees to select the most appropriate approach(es) or develop new approaches. Assignments regularly require interpretations of internal and external policies and extrapolations from precedents

Primary responsibilities:

  • Resolves most problems and work issues without the assistance of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional.
  • Develops and recommends approaches to address current and anticipated problems and issues.
  • Work is reviewed rarely, typically through status reports and at project completion, to ensure policy compliance and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or other work activities.
  • The selected candidate will be tasked with working on challenging case management activities and program management assignments.
  • Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under the minimal direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional.
  • Provide sound advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees.

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position typically requires a BA degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, however, additional years of relevant processing experience maybe substitute in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be able to independently review national program issues
  • Must have prior claims examiner experience with the federal government
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Prior experience with ECOMP (Employee Compensation Operations Management Portal).
  • Must have knowledge of the Federal Employee's Compensation Act and related regulations and procedures.
  • Skill in conducting a thorough review of OWCP claims to facilitate return to duty and to determine eligibility for medical and wage loss benefits, reemployment potential, and placement in vocational rehabilitation programs.
  • Perform comprehensive case management of OWCP claims
  • Conduct functional activities for projects/programs.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recommend policy and procedures to senior level staff
  • Ability to effectuate cost containment processes, analyze chargeback reports, and devise effective agency workers' compensation case management procedures.
  • Ability to communicate information to diverse and sometimes challenging audiences to assist injured workers and management officials, complete work assignments, prepare documents, and lead projects.

(To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with no breaks).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $49,400.00 - $89,300.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
